There is much in the homeopathic literature about aversion to milk, poor bone development and absorption disorders. It is something to be concerned about. It indicates many things, including an absorption issue, which is either coupled with or; can lead to deformed bones, stunted growth, underdevelopment. So, it is something to be concerned about and address for healthy child development. Adding sugar to milk or giving chocolate milk is not a proper solution. Healing the digestive and absorption issues is a proper solution.
The top remedy for an aversion to mother’s milk, exclusively, is Silica. The two top remedies for aversion to milk (in general) are Lac Defloratinum and Natrum Carbonicum. As always, the individualization will lead you to the best choice of a homeopathic remedy – the simillimum.
Silica (Silicon Dioxide, Sand)
A powerful polychrest. Silicon is found in the bone matrix. It’s lacking affects the skeletal system. A silica person will have an aversion to milk, lactose intolerance. A prominent symptom of silica is “ineffectual stool,” which can manifest in many ways. Colic, constipation, hard stools. Fontanelles that are slow to close. They prefer cold. Need to be dressed warmly but, prefer cold. Always feels worse at or around the full moon. In our urban societies, we may not notice such things but, the symptoms are real. (Ask anyone running a suicide or help line. 911 calls are up during the full moon.) Sweats, especially feet. There is much to the symptomology of silica but, not so easy to ask a child.
Lac Defloratinum (Skimmed Milk) A useful remedy for diabetes and kidney disease. Averse to milk, which causes and aggravates many symptoms. Worse noise and light motion. Great prostration. Constipation. Painful, extorting cries at stool.
Natrum Carbonicum (Sodium Carbonate)
Sodium carbonate is well known, in a macro dose, as a remedy for an upset stomach and eczema, but, not something to give a baby in a macro dose. The outstanding symptoms are great debility, especially, from heat. Averse to sun. Diarrhea from milk. Worse from exertion. Worse at full moon. Hard stools. Desire to evacuate without result. Irritated alimentary tract. Very sleepy.
Remedy Individualization
We see the similarities between silica and natrum carbonicum. Differentiation between the 2 remedies requires much more investigation. However, for home prescribing an attempt with either one, will be likely to succeed as the case is an acute one. Trying one and then following by the other, if there is no response is ok. A single dose will not hurt. The beauty of homeopathy.
How To Administer a Remedy to a Baby
The best way to administer to a baby is, if the mother is nursing, to have the mother take the remedy and breast feed her child. The remedy will pass through her milk to the baby. The next best way is to put a few pellets on the baby’s lips. The baby will absorb and dissolve the pellets. One dose is sufficient. A high dilution such as 200C or 1M should be used.
Nutritional Response
One mother, who would never turn to homeopathy, took the solution of feeding her son goat’s milk. It worked. Probably, because it is much closer to a human constitution than cow’s milk (Dr. Bernard Jensen, RIP). On the other hand, I know a mother who fed her child a bottle of goat’s milk, without testing the child’s reaction. He got very sick with a terrible stomache. So, we see that caution and testing is advised. Introduction of new foods should always be with small amounts on an empty stomach to feel the reaction and see if the food agrees with you.
